The US EPA says empty, wipe dry and refill portable humidifiers daily and clean them every third day. It recommends bottled water labelled “distilled”, says don’t humidify above 50%, and to turn it down if the area around it gets damp.
Winter Condensation and Mould — EPA: Humidity 30 to 50%, Dry Condensation Straight Away
The US EPA says keep indoor humidity below 60% if possible, ideally 30 to 50%, and dry condensation on windows or walls quickly while reducing the source. Clean mould under about 10 square feet yourself with detergent and water, and never mix bleach with ammonia cleaners.
