The National Pension contribution rate in Korea becomes 10% from January 2027. The supplementary provisions of the National Pension Act as amended on 2 April 2025 (Act No. 20903) write out, in Article 4, the rate for each year from 2026 to 2032. Employees (workplace members) pay 5% and their employer 5%; regional, voluntary and continued members pay the full 10% themselves. It then rises 0.5 points a year, reaching the 13% in the main text of Article 88 from 2033. The 2027 rate is already in the Act; no notice is needed. Enter your income and the year to get the monthly contribution.
1. The 2027 rate is 10% — 5% each for employee and employer (Art. 4).
2. Up 0.5 points a year to 13% in 2033 — 9.5% in 2026.
3. Standard monthly income from 410,000 to 6,590,000 won (Jul 2026–Jun 2027). An employee on 3 million won pays 150,000 won a month in 2027.
Calculator
Updates as you type. Income is cut to the nearest 1,000 won below and kept between the floor and ceiling. Amounts below 1 won are dropped (ours). For months after June 2027 the floor and ceiling are not yet published; we keep today’s values.
Rates by year — Supplementary Provisions Art. 4
| Year | Workplace member (employee and employer each) | Regional, voluntary, continued |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 475/10,000 each (4.75%) | 95/1,000 (9.5%) |
| 2027 | 500/10,000 each (5%) | 100/1,000 (10%) |
| 2028 | 525/10,000 each (5.25%) | 105/1,000 (10.5%) |
| 2029 | 550/10,000 each (5.5%) | 110/1,000 (11%) |
| 2030 | 575/10,000 each (5.75%) | 115/1,000 (11.5%) |
| 2031 | 600/10,000 each (6%) | 120/1,000 (12%) |
| 2032 | 625/10,000 each (6.25%) | 125/1,000 (12.5%) |
| 2033 on | 65/1,000 each (6.5%) — main text Art. 88(3) | 130/1,000 (13%) — main text Art. 88(4) |
Article 4(1) sets the employee’s contribution and the employer’s share “notwithstanding the amended Article 88(3), from 2026 to 2032” at each year’s rate; Article 4(2) does the same for regional, voluntary and continued members. The Act took effect on 1 January 2026 (Art. 1). The percentages are our conversion of the fractions. Seven rises of 0.5 points from 9.5% make 13% (our check: 9.5 + 0.5 × 7 = 13).
Standard monthly income — what the rate is applied to
| Type | What the source says | Worth noting (ours) |
|---|---|---|
| Decree Art. 5(1) | Reported monthly income cut to the nearest 1,000 won below, within the floor and ceiling | 3,000,900 won becomes 3,000,000 won |
| Decree Art. 5(4)(5) | The published floor and ceiling apply from July to the following June. Income below the floor uses the floor; above the ceiling, the ceiling | — |
| Notice 2026-31 | Floor 410,000 won, ceiling 6,590,000 won, for July 2026 to June 2027 | Amended 2 Feb 2026, in force 1 Jul 2026 |
So from January to June 2027 the 10% rate and the 410,000–6,590,000 won band apply together. The band from July 2027 must be published by 31 March each year (Decree Art. 5(3)) and is not yet known. The calculator keeps today’s values for those months (our assumption).
Four people in 2027 — our examples
| Case (our example) | 2026 → 2027 monthly contribution | Worth noting (ours) |
|---|---|---|
| Employee, 3 million won a month | Own share 142,500 → 150,000 won | Employer pays the same; 7,500 won more a month |
| Regional member, 3 million won | 285,000 → 300,000 won | All paid by you |
| Employee, 9 million won | Own share 313,025 → 329,500 won | Ceiling of 6,590,000 won applies — 659,000 won in total |
| Voluntary member reporting 300,000 won | 41,000 won (2027) | Floor of 410,000 won applies |
In 2026 the employee share is 4.75%, so half a won can appear (2,345,000 × 4.75% = 111,387.5 won). The calculator drops amounts below 1 won; we did not read the rounding rule used on actual bills. At 13% in 2033, an employee on 3 million won pays 195,000 won and a regional member at the ceiling 856,700 won (our sum, keeping today’s ceiling).
If you thought it was 9.5%
9.5% is the 2026 rate. From the January 2027 contribution it is 10%. An employee on 3 million won pays 7,500 won more a month, 90,000 won a year (our sum). How contributions turn into a pension is in our National Pension estimator; support for regional members is in the regional member contribution support calculator.

Questions that remain
Is the 2027 rate set by notice?
No. The rates are written into Supplementary Provisions Article 4 year by year. What is published each year is the floor and ceiling of standard monthly income.
Does pay above 6.59 million won raise the contribution?
Up to the June 2027 contribution, only 6,590,000 won counts, so the 2027 employee share tops out at 329,500 won (our sum).
Does it rise again after 2033?
The current Article 88 sets 13% (65/1,000 each). The Act gives no schedule beyond that.
